A glitch in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) system used to report end-of-day values of individual stocks - and some index funds, such as the S&P 500 index - delayed the reporting of closing prices on August 12.

Well after the close of markets at 4 pm, the NYSE issued a statement that stated: “…Due to the earlier reported CTA (Consolidated Tape Association) issue, NYSE Group continues to experience delays in the publishing of trades and closing prices to the Consolidated Tape.”

It apparently wasn’t a significant issue, only delaying the reporting of current closing prices late into the evening.

The NYSE reported updated closing prices at 8:39 pm that evening.

For TSP participants, that meant that the reporting of closing prices were significantly delayed as well that evening.
